At the age of 15 I became a Christian through the youth work of Wimborne Baptist Church and was baptised at 16. As Christians, we believe that Jesus Christ is the only Son of God and that because of his death on the cross, we can have peace with God. Every human being that has ever lived (except Jesus) has offended God and not lived up to his standards. Because God is holy he cannot allow unholy people into his presence, despite his great love for us. God made each one of us and loves us deeply so he sent Jesus into the world to live as a man and eventually to be punished for our wrongdoing. Jesus was crucified and died as a punishment for all the things we have done wrong, no matter what they are. After 3 days God proved his mighty power by raising Jesus back to life. Now that our failures have been punished there is no reason why we can't be close to a holy God. And so we begin a new friendship with God which will go on into heaven when our bodies die. The death and resurrection of Jesus is central to the Christian faith. We believe that without Jesus, no man can be close to a holy God - because of our imperfection. It is only through Jesus that these imperfections are adequately dealt with. There truly is no other suitable way of getting rid of our failures.
